Online learning
I have been involved in online learning
both as a lecturer/facilitator with CASB and as part of my work in
completing my Masters of Education. I feel that online learning
offers universities and colleges with well-documented opportunities for growth
and provides interesting possibilities for student
learning and engagement. Great online courses and programs require
dedicated teachers who are familiar with the design considerations, and potentials and pitfalls
of the educational technology. I have selected “Technology and
Learning” as an area of emphasis for my Masters program, and in my
course work have begun to develop several ideas utilizing digital technologies in accounting education.
Using an approach similar to that modelled by the Khan Academy - a well-known site that my son has been using to help him with his Algebra - my intention is to create a battery of short (5 minute) online lectures addressing financial management issues that students find challenging. I believe a financial management site of this sort, created by the faculty at a university, can be a fantastic learning tool.

Online learning - video demonstration
Here is a demonstration of an online lecture. In this case I am responding to student questions regarding a goodwill calculation.
