Goal statement reflection
This is a reflection on the learning goals statement I prepared in Spring 2011 as part of my admission to the Masters of Arts in Education program at Michigan State University.
I entered the Masters of Arts in Education program at Michigan State University intent on becoming a better teacher. This goal has not changed. Teachers should have a strong foundational understanding of how learning 'happens'. Although I have been teaching for almost a decade, I have had limited formal educational training with most of my teaching strategies developed on the job. The masters program provided an opportunity to |

compare my teaching practices with established teaching theory as well as providing exposure to research into how people learn. I also intended to emerge from the program with a more complete understanding of the ways in which digital technologies could be incorporated into educational programs and learning. These goals have been met.
I remain focussed on becoming a better teacher. I aspire towards further understanding of learning theories and best practices in teaching and how they can be applied in the classroom. I want to keep up-to-date with regards to educational technologies and how they can be integrated into course structure and lesson plans. This program has crystallized the importance of pursuing these goals throughout my teaching tenure and helped me realize that becoming a better teacher is an active pursuit requiring ongoing dedication, passion and reflection.
So while my goals are largely the same, the approach to achieving these goals has changed significantly. To become a better teacher I have become, and will remain, a better student.
