CEP 820 - Teaching K12 students online
Professor Leigh Wolf, Summer 2011
This was a great class which provided lots of ‘hands on’ time and exposure to a variety of educational technology tools. As our instructors explained “You're learning, playing, and applying - then learning more, applying and changing.” The overall focus was on online course design and my final project was an online accounting course using Moodle as a Learning Management System.
Course artifact:
We addressed instructional design ideas and best practices throughout the course in an informal online notebook. Here is my final course notebook summary documenting overall online course design considerations. See excerpt and attachment below. Other elements of this course - including a personal introduction and 'getting started' screencast - have been incorporated into this website.

Final notebook entry (excerpt) - by S.NewtonThis is a brief summary of significant learning points and pitfalls encountered as I created my first online course. Throughout the course development I tried to focus on the following two features:
1. Clear and consistent communication. 2. Establish a personal presence. These had an impact on both design and pedagogical decisions. The two ideas were emphasized (and modelled) by the instructors throughout the course and are consistent with the theoretical concepts recommended by the National Center on Universal Design for Learning: http://www.udlcenter.org/ |
